To maintain public health and the safety of our neighbors during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department presents this year’s Hoggetowne Medieval Faire as a free, online event, Hoggetowne at Home: A Virtual Medieval Experience. No ticket purchase or advanced registration is required.

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 30 through Feb. 7, attendees can enjoy pre-recorded demonstrations in medieval arts and sciences, and martial arts as well as purchase medieval wares in the online Merchant Marketplace at Hoggetownefaire.com.

In addition, in place of the city’s traditional event, live and prerecorded demonstrations and performances are scheduled online Jan. 30-31, Feb. 6-7, 2021 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. each weekend.

“During the online event, attendees will be able to connect online with medieval merchants, participate in an interactive quest, and engage with several of the annual characters during live shows,” said Event Coordinator Sunshine Andrei.

The king and queen of Hoggetowne will greet attendees in the royal court, and medieval blacksmiths and sculptors are among the many presenters scheduled to entertain attendees.

“LANCE Orlando has been proud to provide the Hoggetowne Gate Guards since 2017,” said Charles Hale, president of the Orlando nonprofit. “It is always a pleasure to be able to welcome the patrons in our own comedic way. The interactions we have with them is fun and light-hearted. While we are sad that we won’t have the same interactions this year, we completely agree with the decision made to not hold an in-person faire.”

The department has secured event management platform, Eventeny, to host the faire online.
