Thousands of pinwheels will be planted by multiple agencies in front of the UF Health Children’s Hospital on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

According to a press release from the Partnership for Strong Families, Inc. (PSF), the spinning blue pinwheels will stand on the hospital lawn, alongside a banner, to bring attention to the community’s role in supporting children and strengthening local families. The event is funded by the Children’s Trust of Alachua County.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Gainesville’s Child Abuse Prevention Task Force will be using the opportunity to spark conversations about children’s health and safety in the community, according to PSF. Agencies in the task force—including The Child Advocacy Center, The Early Learning Coalition, the Parent Academy, Partnership for Strong Families, Peaceful Paths, Florida Health Department, the Department of Children and Families, Baby Gator, and Healthy Families—are committed to providing local caregivers with resources and supports to reduce risk factors that can lead to child abuse.
