The 80th annual Newberry Watermelon Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, in the Country Way Town Square.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1739 SW 248th Dr. in Newberry.

The schedule of events starts at 9 a.m. with the gates opening to the public.

The parade lineup will be at 10 a.m. with the parade starting at 10:30 a.m. at Lois Forte Park on 260th Street before turning left on State Road 26 to Seaboard Drive.

After the parade will be the watermelon seed-spitting contest, the pet pageant and the crowning of the Watermelon Queen.

Food, crafts, games, entertainment and a kids zone will be on hand throughout the day.
