The Alachua County Library District (ACLD) will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a community celebration on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Headquarters Library in Gainesville.
The celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 401 E. University Ave. and will begin with an official program at 10 a.m., followed by activities throughout the library from noon to 4 p.m. The event caps off a month-long celebration throughout the district.
Attendees can have their photos taken for a READ poster, create arts and crafts projects in the MakerSpace, meet a therapy dog through the Read with a Dog program and receive balloon creations from a balloon artist. The celebration will also feature free icy treats and a live DJ.
Patrons can pick up a free tote bag, other anniversary giveaways and a commemorative book highlighting the history of ACLD.
The Library District began its first fiscal year on Oct. 1, 1986, serving approximately 175,000 Alachua County residents. Over the past 40 years, the district has grown to 12 locations and served millions of patrons as a place for learning, entertainment and discovery.
ACLD invites the community to join the celebration and mark four decades of library service.
