The Alachua County Land Conservation and Management Program is seeking proposals from qualified entities and individuals for hunting services contracts on multiple county preserves.
According to an Alachua County release, the contracts will allow limited hunting opportunities in exchange for maintenance, security, caretaking and other services at various Alachua County preserves.
The contracts will be for a five-year term at the following locations:
- Barr Hammock Preserve – Non-public Use Area
- Balu Forest
- Carr-McNabb Tract
- Phifer Flatwoods Preserve – Lochloosa Creek Tract
- Santa Fe River Headwaters Preserve
- Watermelon Pond – Sheffield and Ferran Tracts
- Watermelon Pond – King and Warney Tracts

The county adopted the Alachua County Hunting Business Plan on Jan. 22, 2023, with the intent to establish principles that guide appropriate management of recreational hunting on Alachua County Forever program-managed lands.
Hunting is a traditional land management tool that is important in managing the wildlife population and health of the natural communities. It is also a traditional recreation and supplementary means of obtaining food for county residents.
The Alachua County Forever program manages the Alachua County preserves and is funded by the voter-approved Wild Spaces Public Places surtax.
