The annual Summer Lovin’ Adopt-A-Thon will be held at the Alachua County Animal Resources shelter in Gainesville on Saturday, Aug. 9.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 3400 NE 53rd Ave.

All adoption fees will be waived during the event, giving families the chance to bring home a new cat or dog at no cost. All pets will also go home with $600 in supplies and care, including flea treatment, heartworm testing, vaccines, a collar and a microchip. Pets will also be neutered or spayed at no cost.

The University of Florida student chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians will also be teaming up the Alachua County Animal Resources to help clear the shelter and open space for more animals in need of a safe place.

“We’d love to see families, students and neighbors come out to meet these amazing pets,” said Animal Resources Director Julie Johnson in a press release. “Our hope is to see over 100 wagging tails and purring kittens heading home with their new people.”

Animal Resources will close early at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, to prepare for the event.

Adoptions are first-come, first-served. Adopters must be at least 18 years old and show photo ID with proof of address. Households with other pets should bring proof of current rabies vaccinations and licenses.
