The Albert “Ray” Massey (Westside) Park is set to reopen on Friday with a new array of space-themed playground equipment.
According to a city of Gainesville release, the park will have a fenced playground with new surfacing and a colorful theme inspired by the NW 8th Avenue Solar Walk.
The park – located at 1001 NW 34th St. – will feature equipment that offers sensory, social and physical play experiences for children. It will also include a restroom with lighting. The restrooms will be available for use on Monday.
Construction for the playground, which was funded using the Wild Spaces and Public Places half-cent sales tax, cost a little over $2 million. Scherer Construction of North Florida, LLC facilitated the project.
The city plans to hold a celebration event at a future time.
