Improvements to the city of Gainesville’s Alfred A. Ring Nature Park boardwalk are set to start soon.

According to a city release, the park, located at 1801 NW 23rd Blvd., will close on Friday, Sept. 27 and will not reopen until the project is completed in the spring of 2025.

The boardwalk has experienced severe wood rot, making it a safety hazard.

Work on the 10 sections of the boardwalk at Alfred A. Ring Nature Park will consist of replacement of the top handrails, all the walking surfaces and construction of new concrete ramps located at the north trailhead bridge.

The city of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will use MKM Quality Construction, which was awarded the construction contract through a procurement process. The cost for the improvements will be $337,369.

While the park is closed, the city encourages residents to visit other Gainesville parks. A full list can be found by clicking here.
