The Acrosstown Repertory Theatre (ART) has partnered with the City of Gainesville to present “The Tempest” starting Friday.
ART will take its first foray into nomadic theater as the play will run Friday and Saturday and the next two Saturdays — April 22 and April 29. It is free and open to the public.
“The Tempest” is one of Shakespeare’s later plays and follows the King of Naples and his company when they are wrecked by a storm stirred up by Prospero, the Duke of Milan. His plot to marry his daughter to the king’s son is only the beginning of his plan to achieve justice.
The ART has been putting on productions for the Gainesville community since 1980. In October of 2022, they announced they would be leaving their performing space of 37 years. While the company searches for a new home, it will focus on being a traveling troupe. “The Tempest” is ART’s first performance since they left their previous building.
