The Boston Brass will be performing at a concert at Gainesville High School and several Alachua County Public Schools band members will be performing with the group.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Gainesville High School auditorium (1900 NW 13th St.).
“There are two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone and tuba, and they are among the very best individual performers on their instruments. Now, when you put the five of them together, it’s just a unique, powerful musical experience that folks…there’s going to be something for everybody,” Gainesville High School band director Bill Pirzer said in a phone interview.
The music will range in styles from classical favorites to jazz standards. The concert will feature several other pieces of varying genres including Latin, mariachi and marches.
Pirzer said that the concert will bring together 160 band students from throughout Alachua County, who will perform and get the chance to interact with the Boston Brass.
“They’re [the Boston Brass] are going to do a masterclass with our students to interact with them and kind of give them tips and pointers and how to rehearse and how to become better musicians. They tell their life story and how they just started out in a middle school band room, just like all the students that we’re going to have there with them,” Pirzer said.
The Middle School All-Star Band will perform An Epic Expedition by Rick DeJonge and the GHS Symphonic Band will perform Sounds of Cinema also by DeJonge.
