U.S. Congresswoman Kat Cammack named Levy County’s Olajuwon White as the 3rd Congressional District’s Veteran of the Year.

White works as director of veteran services for the county and served in the Navy as a hospital corpsman and surgical technician. After his service, he began working to help fellow veterans file claims and teaching them to find information from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Cammack said in a release that White goes above and beyond to help local veterans.

“He served our nation honorably during his time in the Navy and has since committed his life’s work to supporting our nation’s heroes,” Cammack said in a release. “He is well known in the North Central Florida veterans’ community and has become a familiar face many know and trust.”

Cammack will hold a ceremony to recognize White in January. She has also flown a flag above the Capitol in Washington, D.C., in his honor.

The 3rd Congressional District includes Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Suwannee and Union counties.
