
A question-and-answer event with local law enforcement titled, “Can We Talk,” will go over mental health, education, gun violence and I.C.E. is slated for Sunday at the Alachua County Headquarters Library in Gainesville.
This free event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at 401 E University Ave. in Room A and will feature Gainesville Police Chief Nelson Moya, Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott, Maj. Jaime Kurnick of the Gainesville Police Department and High Springs Police Chief Antoine Sheppard.
Opening and closing remarks will be given by Sister Faye Williams and Dr. Zoharah Simmons.
There will be a showing of a 20-minute film titled, “Meding Broken Trust: Police and Communities,” along with performances by Porters Quarters singer, Lena Gillis and Yass, The Poet.
Food and drinks will be provided.
The event is sponsored by M.A.M.A.’s Club Gainesville, the Alachua County Peace Coalition, Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church and the Alachua County Black History Task Force.
