The Alachua County Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) Coalition is hosting the sixth annual “Run For Your Life 5K – Race To End Substance Abuse” Color Fun Run on Sunday.
The run is a fundraiser for the HPW Coalition, a non-profit organization providing youth and adults in the community with information and resources about substance misuse.
The event will start at 8 a.m. with breakfast for participants at Depot Park (622 SE 2nd St., Gainesville) before an 8:30 a.m. warm-up session, Narcan demonstration and community fair featuring resources from local organizations. The run starts at 9 a.m.
During the fun run, there will be six powder stations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tracking devices as times will not be officially recorded.
After the run at 10 a.m., medals will be handed out and a raffle ticket winner announced. The raffle prize will include a gift basket with prizes from Texas Roadhouse and “Pizza for a Year” from Gator Domino’s.
HPW will also be collecting any old or unused medications participants can bring from home to be recycled through the Rx Destroyer for free. All medications will be taken except for sharps (needles) and inhalers.
