Neighbors are invited to Empowering Communities Through Art, an event designed to engage the community, in a moderated discussion on the possibilities and benefits of having a cultural arts center in East Gainesville.

This event is scheduled from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Cotton Club Museum (837 SE Seventh Ave.).

Commissioner Desmon Duncan Walker will moderate the panel discussion with Marshall Davis, director of Miami’s African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, and Gainesville native Marion Caffey, the producer, creator and current director of the Apollo Theater in New York

The event will feature music by professional saxophonist Frantz Emmanuel, along with performances by 1000 Voices of Florida.

This event is free and refreshments will be served.
