Cox Enterprises announced it is accepting applications from nonprofits and volunteers who positively impact the planet for its Cox Conserves Heroes program.
According to a Cox Communications release, the James M. Cox Foundation will accept applications through Thursday, Aug. 29, and will donate $150,000 to nine environmental nonprofits selected by an internal council as the top three finalists in three categories – adult, youth and nonprofit.
The nonprofit category winner will also receive the Jim Kennedy Conservation Award to honor Cox Enterprises Chairman Emeritus and James M. Cox Foundation Chairman Jim Kennedy, an environmentalist who started Cox Conserves.
Cox launched the Cox Conserves Heroes program in 2008 to celebrate people who positively impact the environment. In the past 16 years, Cox has recognized more than 200 volunteers from across the nation and awarded more than $95 million to environmental and conservation causes between 2011-2022.
According to the release, “As an enterprise, Cox is committed to driving meaningful progress toward environmental change. Our goal as a company is to continue to send zero waste to landfill and become carbon and water neutral by 2034. We know that actions, not only words, are key to achieving success, both as a company and as a partner in the communities we serve.”
