Santa Fe College’s Fine Arts Department will host visual and performing artist Craig Smith for a live musical performance and exhibition opening Sept. 17-18, bringing his work in visual art, sound and performance to the college’s Northwest Campus.
Smith will perform from 7 to 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium (3000 NW 83 St, Gainesville). The performance will feature songs from his recent album, “Emerald Cut,” along with other urban art rock selections. The performance marks Smith’s first live music performance in Gainesville.
Artist Marina “Shade” Sachs will provide visualizers that will be projected onto the planetarium’s dome during the concert.
Tickets for the Sept. 17 performance are available through Showpass.
The following evening, Santa Fe College will host an opening reception for Smith’s exhibition, “Social Practices (2001-2006),” from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in the SF Art Gallery, room M-147. The exhibition will remain on display through Oct. 23.
Smith is a visual and performing artist whose research and practice explore the foundations of social relations as an agent in cultural production. His work includes photography, video, sound and live performance created for a wide range of exhibition spaces, including museums, galleries, athletic facilities, health care clinics and financial institutions.
His work has been featured in solo exhibitions and performances across 13 countries.
