Farm Share to hold food giveaway in Gainesville

Farm Share is holding a drive-thru food distribution Friday at Gainesville Regional Airport.

The event will begin at 9:30 at 4191 NE Waldo Road. Organizers and volunteers will serve the food on a first come, first serve basis for as long as supplies last. 

“We’re hoping to feed more than 700 families,” said Leighsha Johnson, distribution coordinator for Farm Share. She said expects the food will last two to three hours, because Gainesville events always have a “huge turnout.”

Johnson said Farm Share has held some 50 events so far this year in North Florida. 

Organizers are still looking for volunteers to help with the distribution. To register as a volunteer, call Gillian Louissaint at 352-745-2871. 

“We can always use more volunteers,” Johnson said.

Volunteers will need to arrive at 7 a.m. for check-in. The event will implement COVID-19 safety protocols, including masks and gloves for volunteers.
