Florida 4-H youth from across the state will compete on Saturday at the annual tailgate grill state competition in Gainesville.
The event will be held at 9 a.m. at the UF/IFAS Beef Teaching Unit South (3721 SW 23rd St.) prior to the Texas at Florida football game.
Youth who have won their regional tailgating competitions will compete for college scholarships.
The event, and educational classes leading up to it, teach hundreds of youth each year about meat science, grilling and food safety, all to develop key life skills such as food preparation and connecting youth to important career pathways.
The competition lasts about two hours, with awards and scholarships announced following lunch. The competition is sponsored by Publix.
