The Gainesville Community Playhouse will perform “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” starting on Friday, Jan. 23, and runs through Feb. 8.

The doors open at 7 p.m. with the performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday performances will be at 2 p.m. with doors opening at 1:30 p.m.  $15-25. The Playhouse is located at 4039 NW 16th Blvd. in Gainesville.

Directed by Derek Wohlust, the play follows the story of Randle P. McMurphy, a rebellious gambler who fakes insanity to serve his prison sentence in a psychiatric hospital. Once inside, he wages a battle of wits and will against the formidable Nurse Ratched. As McMurphy rallies his fellow patients to reclaim their humanity, the audience is taken on a searing exploration of institutional power and the cost of nonconformity.
