The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) will recognize 40 residents for their achievements during its annual Celebration of Success on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Cotton Club Museum & Cultural Center.
The event will honor individuals and families who have reached significant milestones, including academic excellence, securing meaningful employment, achieving homeownership and graduating from the Housing Choice Voucher program through increased financial independence, according to a GHA release.
The celebration will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cotton Club Museum & Cultural Center, 837 SE 7th Ave. in Gainesville. The event is open to the public.
“The meaningful nature of Celebration of Success shines a spotlight on the remarkable accomplishments of our families,” said GHA CEO Pamela E. Davis in the release. “Each awardee represents perseverance, hard work, and the promise of a brighter future for themselves, their families and our community.”
Attendees will hear from previous honoree Shaundria Henry, whose journey through various roles at the GHA reflects the organization’s mission of leveraging resources to create pathways to successful futures.
Since Celebration of Success began in 2023, the GHA has presented 98 awards to community members who have demonstrated determination, resilience and a commitment to achieving their goals.
This year’s event also will include a public report on the outcomes of GHA’s Jobs Plus initiative, a $2.4 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant implemented from 2019 through 2026.
Through workforce development, educational opportunities, employment support services and community partnerships, Jobs Plus helped residents increase earned income, build career pathways and advance toward greater economic self-sufficiency. The report will highlight key accomplishments, participant successes and the program’s lasting impact on participating families and the Gainesville community.
Community leaders, GHA board members, partners, staff, family members and supporters will join award recipients in celebrating their accomplishments and recognizing programs that promote long-term independence and success.
