Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward and City Commissioner Bryan Eastman will present a Key to the City to the ska-punk band, Less Than Jake, on Saturday at the First Magnitude Brewing Company.
The presentation will be at noon at 1220 SE Veitch St. in Gainesville, as Less Than Jake will perform in the “Wake and Bake Festival” that will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Vivid Music Hall at 201 W. University Ave.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Bread of the Mighty Food Bank and GRACE Marketplace.
Gainesville city officials will also proclaim Saturday, March 14, as Less Than Jake Day to recognize the band’s role in helping make Gainesville a national independent and punk music destination.
The proclamation recognizes the band for uplifting local musicians, supporting local nonprofits and maintaining ties to Gainesville for more than three decades of recording and touring.
Less Than Jake formed in Gainesville in 1992 and is one of the most-recognized groups in ska-punk music. The band has released nine studio albums and the members include Chris DeMakes, Roger Lima, Buddy Schaub, J.R. Wasilewski and Matt Yonker.
