Update: Spurgeon Pool ceremony canceled

Update (Thursday, 5:16 p.m.) — Due to the probability of inclement weather on Friday morning, the city of Gainesville will not be holding the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the remodeled H. Spurgeon Cherry Aquatics Center and Pool.

The city of Gainesville will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the H. Spurgeon Cherry Aquatics Center and Pool on Friday. 

The ceremony will be held from 11:30 a.m. to noon at the pool entrance.  

After the ribbon-cutting, attendees will be able to take self-guided tours through the new facilities. Pool admission will be free to the public from 11:45 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Initially closed in January of 2021, renovations took over 16 months and cost $2 million.  

The renovations included a new lobby, individual shower stalls for more privacy, lockers and lockable cubbies on the pool deck, two outdoor showers, two family bathrooms, new roof and electrical systems upgrades, and a new pool liner.  

Admission to the pool will range from $2.25 to $4.25 per person.
