Ham radio license classes available starting Thursday

A free 13-week ham radio course for attendees to get their license will be available starting at the Alachua County Emergency Operations Center in Gainesville on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The classes will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1100 SE 27th St., with an FCC multiple-choice exam slated on Dec. 4. to get low-cost training materials either online or in hard-copy format, click here.

Alachua County amateur radio volunteers help staff with every hurricane shelter opened up during hurricanes, and provide back-up communications. Local EOC-affiliated ham radio clubs will assist attendees in passing the entry-level FCC license test.
