Artists and residents will set to painting 10 murals throughout High Springs on Wednesday, kicking off the five-day Walldogs Dive into High Springs Festival.

More than 130 artists will visit High Springs for the festival that includes mural painting, live music, food trucks, a classic car show, a talent show and more throughout the week.

The mural work will begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. when artists project their designs onto the 10 mural locations. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, community members can visit and paint with the artists from dawn to dusk.

High Springs has recently passed a mural ordinance prompted by the upcoming festival that caused concern in the community last year. The city commission also denied the festival the opportunity to paint murals on two city-owned buildings.

All the planned murals will happen with private owners.

Murals will depict High Springs history and unique traits like a High Springs Speedway mural on the Barber Building, a cave diving mural at Extreme Exposure, a mural of The Priest Theater at Prohibition Pizza and a Florida cowboys mural at the Duke Energy building.

The High Springs Playhouse will hold its inaugural Talent Show on Saturday, and the festival’s Art Fair on the Green will happen Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
