The Matheson History Museum will host the “History of the Death Care Industry in Alachua County” event on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

This free event will take place at 7 p.m. at 513 East University Ave. in Gainesville. Click here for in-person registration.

Join local historian Don Davis, who will be joined by a panel of local funeral home industry leaders, for a unique presentation on the history of the death care industry in Alachua County. Learn about the county’s many funeral homes and cemeteries and how the industry has changed over the years.

Davis is also creating a mini-exhibit about the death care industry for the Matheson History Museum. He is seeking funeral memorabilia, such as pictures, publications, small logo items and personal stories. For those interested in loaning items for the exhibit, contact Davis at 352-215-1392.

Davis, a former banker with Capital City Bank, moved to Gainesville in 1965 and graduated from Gainesville High School and the University of Florida. He enjoys writing and researching about local business and industry history and is a past president of the Matheson History Museum’s Board of Directors.
