The Humane Society of North Central Florida is offering pet owners a way to ensure their animals are cared for if they become unable to do so through its Happy Tails Planned Giving Program.
The program is designed to provide peace of mind by guaranteeing participating dogs and cats will be accepted by the Humane Society of North Central Florida in Gainesville and placed in permanent, loving homes if their owners can no longer care for them because of illness, injury or death.
As part of the enrollment process, pet owners complete a detailed adoption questionnaire outlining each pet’s personality, favorite toys, treats, games, daily routines and other care preferences. The information is used to help match each animal with the most appropriate adoptive family.
The Happy Tails Program offers two enrollment options:
Pre-Payment Option: Pet owners complete the enrollment materials and establish an adoption file for each pet. The required donation is $1,500 per cat and $2,000 per dog.
Deferred Payment Option: Pet owners may arrange for payment through their estate using life insurance or other planned giving arrangements administered by an attorney. The required donation is $2,000 per cat and $2,500 per dog.
Humane Society officials said the program allows pet owners to make advance plans for their companions while ensuring the animals receive individualized care and are placed in homes that fit their unique personalities and needs.
