More than 1,000 local families will offer clothing for infants through teens, shoes, backpacks, books, toys, baby gear, nursery furniture, outdoor toys, sports equipment, maternity items and other children’s essentials.
“Back-to-school shopping adds up quickly, especially for families with growing kids,” said Karen Miner, owner of Just Between Friends Gainesville, said in the press release. “Our goal is to help families stretch their budgets while giving another life to high-quality children’s items. Many families save hundreds of dollars by shopping our event.”
In addition to shopping, the event will feature several free family activities on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Creative KIDS’ Market will showcase young entrepreneurs ages 5 to 17 selling handmade products while gaining experience in business, communication and money management.
The Alachua Police Department will also host a backpack and school supply giveaway on Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon, providing free backpacks and school supplies to local students while supplies last.
Additional family-friendly activities include:
- Free face painting
- Balloon animals
- Character appearances
- Music by DJ Tu Fiesta
- Free food while supplies last
The event is open to the public. Special early-access shopping opportunities will be available before the public opening for teachers, first-time parents, foster families, community helpers and advance ticket holders.
Just Between Friends Gainesville is held three times each year and connects thousands of local families to buy and sell children’s items. Organizers say the event helps families save money, earn supplemental income and keep millions of dollars’ worth of children’s goods in circulation while supporting local community initiatives.
