The Matheson History Museum invites the community to support the restoration of the historic Matheson House. Built in the 1850s, this iconic landmark has witnessed over 170 years of Gainesville’s history.

While grants from the Florida Division of Historic Resources will cover some costs, community donations are essential to complete the project and preserve the house for future generations.

“Preserving historic sites like the Matheson House is crucial for honoring the legacies of our past and ensuring that future generations can engage with these invaluable cultural resources,” said Executive Director Salvatore Cumella in a press release.

Donations to the Historic Matheson House Capital Campaign will safeguard its structure, enhance visitor experiences and support educational opportunities, said Cumella.

The museum, library and archives will continue to operate during regular hours during the restoration project, offering exhibits, archives and programs to visitors.
