The Matheson History Museum will open a new exhibit titled, “We Are Here: Stories from Multilingual Speakers” on Wednesday, May 10.
The exhibit will spotlight over 60 speakers of multiple languages from Gainesville and the surrounding counties.
“These stories include examples of successes, struggles, hopes, injustices, and dreams of a more inclusive and just community. The goal is to showcase these stories, make visible the language diversity present in our community, and advocate for all of our neighbors’ right to access information in their preferred languages,” the Matheson press release stated.
There will be an opening reception hosted by the Matheson on Friday, May 19 from 7 – 9 p.m. The evening will have refreshments and a short program beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event is free. Register for this event here.
