Newberry releases lineup of Christmas events

The city of Newberry, which calls itself the Christmas capital of Alachua County, has announced its holiday event plans for this year, starting Saturday, Dec. 7. 

Light Up Christmas Contest (Dec 7 – Dec 21) 

The city encourages residents to walk through and enjoy lights and decoration displays in the town’s neighborhoods. You can cast a vote for your favorite lit neighborhood on the Christmas Prism app (download here).

Tree Lighting Ceremony (6-8 p.m. on Dec 7) 

Gather with friends, family and neighbors to see the tree and downtown come alive with twinkling lights. Enjoy hot cocoa, a visit with Santa, and join in with carolers to kick off the holiday season. 

Vintage Christmas Market (2-8:30 p.m. on Dec 7) 

Step back in time at the Vintage Christmas Market located at 25310 W. Newberry Rd. Browse vintage-inspired crafts, antiques, collectibles, and handmade goods, perfect for finding unique holiday gifts. 

Movie in the Park (5 p.m. on Dec 14) 

Join a community gathering at Barry Park, 25310 W. Newberry Rd., to watch “Elf.” Bring blankets and enjoy hot cocoa, laughter, and the magic of Christmas under the stars. 

Holiday Golf Cart Contest (5-7:30 p.m. on Dec 14) 

Unleash your creativity and transform your golf cart into a festive masterpiece and participate for the chance to earn bragging rights. 

NMSO Gingerbread Contest and Snowy Block Party (3 p.m. on Dec 21) 

This fun and friendly competition, hosted by the Newberry Main Street Organization, will be held at the Municipal Building, 25440 W. Newberry Rd. 

Christmas Parade (5 p.m. on Dec 21) 

Enjoy this visual treat with floats, marching bands and festive participants. 

Christmas on the Square (5 p.m. on Dec 21) 

Gather at 1739 SW 248th Dr. for a family-friendly event featuring Christmas music, Santa Claus, bounce houses, crafts, food and hot chocolate.
