
The 79th annual Newberry Watermelon Festival is slated for Saturday, May 18, in the CountryWay Town Square.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 1739 SW 248th Dr. in Newberry.
The schedule of events starts at 9 a.m. with the gates opening to the public.
The parade lineup will be at 10 a.m. with the parade starting in downtown Newberry at 10:30 a.m.
Newberry Mayor Jordan Marlowe will make an announcement at 11 a.m. followed by the first watermelon seed spitting and the pet pageant at 11:30 a.m.
At noon, the introduction of the queen contestants begins, followed by the crowning of the Watermelon Queen at 12:30 p.m.
Games will follow the naming of the Watermelon Queen and will include a seed-spitting contest, watermelon roll and more.
