This Labor Day has several showcase events to check out along with the typical holiday closings but no trash delays for Gainesville or unincorporated Alachua County residents.
Jimmy Buffett Fest—Sunday
Heartwood Soundstage from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The event will feature an eclectic lineup of local artists performing Buffett’s beloved tropical-inspired hits and deep cuts, capturing the easygoing, beachside spirit that defined his music and connected generations of fans.
Labor Day Barrel Blast—Friday through Sunday
World Equestrian Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
With $30,000 on the line, riders will compete in the 2D High-Stakes Rodeo Run, the growing 4D Limited Rider Class and the featured Youth 4D. Plus, all-day exhibitions on Friday and award ceremonies on Sunday.

Suwannee Sack Off Cornhole Tournament—Saturday
Salt Creek Restaurant & Marker 29 in Old Town starting at 3 p.m.
Register your team or just enjoy the vibes with live music at 7 p.m. All proceeds go toward local beautification projects.

Levitt Amp Concert Series 2026—Friday
Skinner Baseball Park in Alachua from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The free concert series returns for its September schedule. Friday’s concert will showcase Propaganjah, with high-energy, hard-rockin’ reggae music.
Local nonprofit Josh’s Place won the concert series last year.
Government closures
All Alachua County offices will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, but residential garbage collection will continue as normal and not be impacted.
The city of Gainesville will also close its offices on Monday, but its residential garbage and recycling schedule will continue as normal.
RTS bus services will not run on Labor Day.
