North Central Florida landowners interested in protecting natural resources while maintaining productive uses of their property are encouraged to apply for conservation financial assistance through two Regional Conservation Partnership Program projects led by the Alachua Conservation Trust.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, in partnership with Alachua Conservation Trust, is offering funding opportunities for Entity Held Conservation Easements and land management practices through the Surface to Springs and Forest to Gulf Regional Conservation Partnership Programs. Applications are due Sept. 30, 2026.
The programs are designed to help landowners align land uses with conservation values and practices while protecting wildlife habitat, surface and groundwater, working grasslands and forests.
Eligible landowners may apply for assistance for conservation easements as well as practices that can improve and protect natural resources. Eligible practices may include:
- Prescribed fire
- Forest thinning
- Rotational grazing
- Wildlife habitat improvements
- Cover crop planting
- Stream and shoreline protection
- Other conservation practices
The Surface to Springs and Forest to Gulf projects target conservation funding and resources to priority areas across North Florida. Landowners whose properties are within or touch the boundaries of either project may be eligible for conservation easement funding.
The project areas include all or portions of Alachua, Bradford, Citrus, Columbia, Gilchrist, Hernando, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Sumter, Suwannee and Union counties.
Because of the complex nature of the projects and application requirements, landowners interested in applying are strongly encouraged to contact Alachua Conservation Trust before submitting an application. ACT staff can provide guidance on available options and help landowners understand the steps involved.
Applicants will need to take appropriate steps to establish farm records and complete required certifications.
