Parents and caregivers can receive free assistance with properly installing child safety seats during a Community Car Seat Checkup hosted by UF Health on Thursday, July 16.
The event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at UF Health Professional Park (3300 SW Williston Rd., Gainesville). Click here to register.
During scheduled appointments, nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will provide hands-on instruction to help caregivers correctly install their child’s car seat and learn how to safely reinstall it on their own. The educational sessions are designed to ensure child passenger safety and increase caregivers’ confidence in using car seats correctly.
To prepare for the appointment, participants are encouraged to install the car seat in their vehicle before arriving, bring the car seat instruction manual and the vehicle owner’s manual, and know their child’s current height and weight.
Car seats are available for eligible caregivers who need assistance obtaining one. Those in need of a car seat are encouraged to contact UF Health before the event to determine eligibility.
According to child passenger safety experts, correctly installed car seats are among the most effective ways to protect children from injury in motor vehicle crashes.
