‘Porgy & Bess’ free movie on tap at Cotton Club Museum

The Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center will present the movie “Porgy & Bess” in celebration of Black Music Month on Saturday, June 14.

The free event will start at 6:30 p.m. at 837 SE 7th Ave. in Gainesville.  Admission is free, but attendees must RSVP by clicking here for tickets.

The showing is of the 1993 British production of “Porgy & Bess,” the opera composed by George Gershwin, that focuses on the story of Porgy, a disabled black street beggar living in the slums of Charleston. Porgy attempts to rescue Bess from her violent and possessive lover and her drug dealer.
