Rosewood was a bustling Florida town of African Americans, founded in 1845 in Levy County. A successful town based on turpentine and timber, it enjoyed a robust population until a racially-motivated mob attacked on Jan. 1, 1923. As the niece of Rosewood survivor, Mahulda Gussie Brown Carrier, Robinson Jenkins established the Real Rosewood Foundation organization to honor her aunt and preserve the legacy and history of the town.
