
Ripple Theatricals will open its production of Disney’s “Newsies” on Thursday, July 16, bringing the inspiring true story of the 1899 newsboys’ strike to the stage.
The play will open at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, and will run through Saturday, Aug. 1, at 5505 SW 63rd Blvd. in Gainesville. Click here to purchase tickets.
The production marks another milestone for the community theater company, culminating months of auditions, rehearsals and behind-the-scenes work by performers, volunteers and supporters.
Based on the true story of New York City’s 1899 newsboys’ strike, “Newsies” follows a group of young newspaper carriers who unite to challenge powerful publishers after unfair price increases threaten their livelihoods. The Tony Award-winning musical celebrates resilience, courage and the power of collective action.
Audiences can expect an evening of high-energy musical theater featuring dynamic choreography, powerful vocal performances and live actor-musicians performing alongside the cast, according to the release. The production also features an ambitious set, immersive staging and a climactic finale that underscores the musical’s themes of determination, hope and unity.
