Santa Fe art gallery to restart exhibits Friday

The Santa Fe College Art Gallery will launch its first public exhibit since spring of 2020 on Friday with “No Day Without a Line: New Plein Air and Life Drawings.”

The exhibit showcases pieces by local artist Steven Edgar Bradbury who worked as a professor and translator before dedicating himself to the arts in 2015.

“We’re all tremendously excited,” Kyle Novak, gallery manager, said. “The gallery is a pretty intrical part to our curriculum, and we consider the gallery to be an extension of the classroom.”

Since the pandemic closed the gallery, Novak said faculty turned the space into a makeshift classroom because of its large size.

But now the gallery will return to its original purpose. A full slate of exhibits will march through as the year continues.

“It’s been a long two years without running any shows so we’re very excited to be having art in the gallery again,” Novak said.

Bradbury’s exhibit opens with a reception at 7 p.m. on Friday at the gallery, located at Santa Fe’s Northwest Campus in Building M, Room 147. You can find directions online.

The reception provides an opportunity to speak with Bradbury and enjoy the art―plus refreshments. The event is free.

The exhibit will remain open through March 4 and display several plein air landscapes as well as life drawings with graphite and pastels.

“It really feels like we’re operating at our full function again,” Novak said.
