The annual Snowbird Aerobatic Contest will return to Keystone Heights Airport starting Thursday afternoon.

The contest runs from Thursday, March 21, to Saturday, March 23, at Keystone Heights Airport (7150 Airport Rd, Starke).  The event is organized by Ocala’s International Aerobatic Club (IAC) Chapter 89.

The contest will be preceded by two days of practice, so you are likely to see aerobatic airplanes going through their high G sequences at the airport throughout the week.

All flights are scored by certified judges, much like figure skating, with compulsory, freestyle and unknown sequences being flown.

Unlike airshow flying, competition aerobatics is performed under the strict safety rules and guidance of the IAC in association with international organizations, CIVA and FAI.
