Three-part concert series features local artists

The City of Gainesville and MusicGNV, a local nonprofit, partnered to present Live and Local, a three-part summer concert series that kicks off Thursday at Bo Diddley Plaza.

The concerts will feature Gainesville bands, singer/songwriters, and independent artists and musicians connected to the local music scene.

The lineup includes the following performers:

  • July 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m.—Singer/songwriter Showcase: Ben White, Bohemian Sunshine, Kyle Keller, Mace, Mai, Pose Norma, Quincy Allen Flint, Rafael Rivera, Sammie Daigle, and the Housing Crisis.
  • August 19, 6:30-8:30 p.m.—Dion Dia Records, a local label, will showcase performances by raph, RAKHU, Casey Jones II (with Hezekiah Fraizer, Alex Backman, Justin Bartholomew and Edminson), DJ Jeremiah Ludicrous and FARO will emcee. Los Angeles singer Amindi will also perform.
  • September 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m.—For the last event, Psychedelic country band, PALIMONY and Noan Partly Trio will perform.

“Historically there have not been a large number of opportunities for emerging artists to play at Bo Diddley Plaza,” Brandon Telg, co-founder of MusicGNV, said in a written statement. “With the Live & Local series, more artists will be offered the opportunity to present their art to the community. This will be substantial for both the musicians and Gainesville as a whole.”

In the statement, Telg said performing at Bo Diddley is equivalent to “making it” in the music community. Now, that opportunity opens for more artists.

He co-founded MusicGNV in early 2020, and the nonprofit organization has since produced a livestream series that raised $8,000 for local artists, released three artist-supporting compilation albums and started a quarterly recording grant for emerging artists.

“After reopening in June, we are excited to add this new series to our calendar and looking forward to our partnership with MusicGNV.” Nigel Hamm, the Gainesville program coordinator for Bo Diddley Plaza, said in a written statement.
