The UF Harn Museum of Art will open the “Silver Linings: Celebrating the Spelman Art Collection” exhibition starting Tuesday.

The free exhibition will run through July 6 at the Harn Museum (3259 Hull Rd., Gainesville) and will feature 39 works by nearly 30 artists, highlighting the legacy of Black artists, many of whom have been historically overlooked by mainstream museums. The nationally traveling exhibit is from the Spelman College Museum of Fine Arts.

Harn Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays; and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The museum is closed on Mondays.

To enrich the exhibition, the Harn will offer a series of free public programs:

  • Artist-in-Residence: Jessica Clermont (March 6 – June 26) – Noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Live art creation and interactive discussions.
  • HESCAH Talk: “The Places You Find Love” (6 p.m. on Feb. 6) – Lecture by Darby English, University of Chicago.
  • UF Student Workshop (March 29, noon – 4 p.m.) – Hands-on art session with Artist-in-Residence Jessica Clermont. Registration required.
  • Art After Dark: Wine Down (6 – 9 p.m. on the last Thursday of the month, February – June) – Extended hours with live music, refreshments, and themed activities.
  • Museum Nights: Silver Linings Celebration (6 – 9 p.m., April 10) – Interactive art experiences, performances, and community engagement.
  • K-12 Art Educator Workshop (2:30 – 4:30 p.m., March 26) – A hands-on session for educators to explore the exhibition.
  • 5th Ave Arts Festival Outreach (May 17 – 18) – Harn booth with art activities at the historic festival.
  • Community Day (noon – 4 p.m., May 31,) – Guided tours, silk screen art activities, live DJ, and more.
