Veterans Day celebrations planned for Friday

Alachua County Community Support Services’ Veteran Services Division, the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center, and other community organizations will host an annual Veterans Day Celebration on Friday.  

The event will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park, 7400 SW 41st Place, Gainesville.  

At this year’s celebration, the community will recognize and honor all veterans and their families whose support gave them the drive and desire to serve the United States.

The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run through noon with military and veteran displays and presentations, and the formal program will follow.  

“Alachua County Veteran Services is proud to serve America’s veterans with all the heart and strategy we can offer,” said Alachua County Veteran Services Director Kim Davis. “Veterans Day, for us, is the day to celebrate with our veteran family and recognize our veterans’ dedication, service, and sacrifices. Please come and enjoy the comradery as we gather to honor you, America’s heroes who served to keep us safe and free.” 

The event features skydivers, veterans, military and organizational tents, live music, helicopter displays, the UF Drill Team demonstration, multiple patriotic ceremonies, and food.   

Newberry will host its annual Veterans Day event that runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newberry Sports Complex at 24880 NW 16th Ave. The event will feature a police and fire vehicle display, a car show, education information booths, military items, food trucks and mini-express train rides.
