
Veterans for Peace (VFP) will host its 36th annual Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday evening.
The event will take start at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 4225 NW 34th St. The Winter Solstice is a community celebration of peace and light, singing, dancing, and fellowship. Masks are required.
The show will feature performances from Cherokee Peace Chant, Drums for Peace, John Chambers, Rob Rothschild, Bill Hutchinson, David Beede, Cathy Dewitt, Fagan Arouh, Quartermoon, The Ruckus, Mick Marino, Mark Billman, Other Voices, A Choir of Heavenly Semi-Angels and more.
Tickets can be purchased in person at Bead All About It, Thornebrook Village Shopping Center, and Theatre of Memory. All in-person purchases require cash or checks only. Tickets can also be purchased online at Eventbrite. Tickets are $15 – $30.
VFP is an organization advocating for the abolishment of war as an instrument of government policy. The organization uses the funds raised to host the annual Peace Poetry Contest for Alachua County K-12 students.
VFP awarded four $1500 College Peace Scholarships to students working towards peace and social justice last year. The VFP awards scholarships each year.
