1 killed, 2 injured in head-on collision south of Waldo on US 301

A 41-year-old Jacksonville woman was killed and two other people were injured in a head-on collision that occurred on US Highway 301 south of Waldo on Sunday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Jacksonville woman was driving a sedan south on US 301 at 11:30 a.m. in the inside lane and a 58-year-old Hortense, Georgia, woman was driving a pickup truck north on US 301 when the sedan failed to negotiate a curve in the road, causing it to travel through the median and hit the pickup truck head-on.

Emergency responders pronounced the Jacksonville woman dead on scene.

The pickup truck driver was seriously injured and the pickup truck passenger, an 82-year-old woman also from Hortense, Georgia, sustained critical injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. Neither was reportedly wearing a seat belt.
