2-vehicle collision injures 2 west of Hawthorne

A two-vehicle collision on State Road 20 west of Hawthorne led to one driver being ejected from her vehicle with life-threatening injuries and seriously injuring the other driver on Friday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 27-year-old Ocala woman was driving an SUV west on State Road 20 at SE 159th Street at 7:45 a.m. when her vehicle traveled off the roadway onto the southern grassy shoulder of SR 20.

She then lost control of the SUV, which started rotating counterclockwise. Once in the median, the vehicle overturned and crossed into the westbound lane. The vehicle collided with a sedan, driven by a 60-year-old Hawthorne woman.

The Ocala woman was then ejected from the SUV and reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries.

The Hawthorne woman sustained serious injuries and is in stable condition.
