A Mississippi woman died and an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputy was injured in a collision on Interstate 75 Monday night.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 24-year-old ACSO male deputy was parked facing southeast on the west shoulder of exit 390 and on the lookout for a 66-year-old Magnolia, Mississippi woman who was driving her SUV recklessly on I-75.

At 10:19 p.m., the woman swerved to the right and struck the deputy’s left rear passenger door, which caused the two vehicles to travel onto the west shoulder. The ACSO SUV overturned in the collision.
