3 fatal accidents hit area overnight

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported three fatal accidents in North Central Florida overnight.

The first occurred around 7 p.m. in Columbia County. For unknown reasons, a 48-year-old Lake City woman was standing in the roadway on Highway 90 near NE Moody Court, which is across the highway from Lake City Gateway Airport.

According to FHP, a white Ford sedan or small truck traveling west on Highway 90 struck the woman and fled the scene. An unknown semi truck then also struck the woman and left the scene.

FHP is looking for both of the vehicles involved in the fatal accident.

“The white Ford will be missing its left side rearview mirror,” FHP reported. “Pleases contact the Florida Highway Patrol with any information that may lead to the identification of the vehicles that fled the scene.”

Around 1 p.m., a Wellborn teen died in a crash in Suwannee County. According to FHP, a 19-year-old male was driving eastbound on County Road 252 when he veered into oncoming traffic near 99th Lane, which is south of Live Oak.

The teen’s sedan collided with a truck driven by a 19-year-old Live Oak woman, who had a 14-year-old female passenger. Both were wearing seatbelts and suffered only minor injuries.

First responders pronounced the Wellborn teen deceased at the scene.

Around 1 a.m., a motorcycle driver lost his life in Dixie County. A 23-year-old Cross City man was riding in a residential area near NE 106th Street and NE 234th Avenue when he lost control of the motorcycle, which overturned on its side and ejected the man into a brick column.

First responders pronounced the man dead on the scene. FHP is still investigating the incident.
