Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on State Road 24 (SW Archer Road) between Archer and Gainesville on Tuesday morning.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 17-year-old Newberry woman was driving an SUV north in the northbound left turn lane on SR 24 and attempted to turn left on SW 122nd Street at 7:20 a.m.
The Newberry’s driver’s traffic signal displayed a flashing yellow left turn arrow and as the SUV started to turn left and enter the intersection, it violated the right of way of a sedan, being driven by a 38-year-old Gainesville woman, that was traveling south in the southbound lanes of SR 24.
The front of the SUV collided with the front right of the sedan.
The Newberry woman and the Gainesville woman sustained minor injuries, but a 5-year-old boy, who was the passenger in the sedan, was critically injured and reportedly not wearing a seat belt. The Gainesville woman was also reportedly not wearing a seat belt.
Emergency responders transported all three people to local hospitals.
