Two Cross City people are in serious condition following a four-vehicle collision that occurred Saturday evening in Gilchrist County.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, three vehicles traveling eastbound along State Road 26 came to a stop around 6:35 p.m. when a fourth vehicle, driven by a 25-year-old Gainesville man, failed to observe the stopped vehicles and struck the last of the three vehicles, leading the second and third vehicles to collide strike the rear of the vehicle in front of them.
Emergency responders reported the two passengers in the third vehicle – a 25-year-old Cross City woman and a 1-year-old Cross City boy – were in serious condition and the 25-year-old Chiefland male driver sustained minor injuries.
FHP reported the 30-year-old Lake City male driver in a marked Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission pickup in the first vehicle and the 52-year-old Archer male driver in the second vehicle were not injured. The Gainesville man driving the SUV that caused the collision, along with his passengers – a 6-year-old Gainesville boy and a 2-year-old Gainesville boy – also were not injured.
