5 seriously injured in Monday I-75 accident

Five people are in serious condition following the Monday accident on I-75 northbound at Alachua exit 399, which involved nine vehicles.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report released Wednesday afternoon, the incident started around 5 p.m. when a 2018 Dodge pickup pulling a utility trailer driven by a 32-year-old High Springs man attempted to avoid a vehicle in front of him. He swerved to the left, where he was struck by a 2005 Volvo tractor trailer driven by a 36-year-old Dallas man who was also attempting to move to his left.

Following the initial collision, seven more vehicles either struck each other or the concrete barrier wall. Once the tractor trailer stopped, it caught fire and spilled a large amount of diesel fuel, according to the report.
